What is Covered California, and how is it different from off-exchange plans?
Covered California is California's state health insurance marketplace, where individuals, families and some small businesses can compare and enroll in health plans, and may qualify for financial help based on income and household size. Off-exchange plans are bought outside the marketplace, directly from an insurance company or through an agent, and are not eligible for marketplace financial help. We review both so you can compare.
Are you Covered California Certified?
Yes. My Legacy Management is Covered California Certified, so we can help you compare and enroll in Covered California plans as well as off-exchange plans.
Who is the Covered California & Other Health Insurance appointment for?
It is for anyone who needs individual or family health coverage, and for small business owners comparing health plans for their employees. If you are eligible for Medicare, book the Medicare Consultation instead.
When can I enroll in a health plan?
Most people enroll during the annual open enrollment period, which for Covered California typically runs from the fall through January 31. Outside that window you may be able to enroll after a qualifying life event, such as losing other coverage, moving, getting married or having a baby, generally within 60 days of the event. Exact dates and rules are set by Covered California and the insurance companies, so confirm the current dates when you book.
What should I have ready for the appointment?
Have the names of the doctors and hospitals you want to keep, your prescriptions, who needs coverage, an estimate of your household income, and any current coverage. Business owners should bring the number of employees and any current group plan.
Do you help small businesses with health insurance?
Yes. The same appointment covers small business (small-group) health plans for owners with employees, alongside individual and family plans.
